The iconic Japanese tech giant, Sony is reportedly working on a smartphone codenamed “Honami” packed with some serious camera technology. Sony Honami is being worked upon thoroughly in an effort to combine Sony’s Cyber-shot technology wrapped into a handset.

The upcoming device is rumored to come with a 20 MP camera with Sony 1/1.6″ Exmor RS stacked sensor and Cyber-shot G Lens. 1/1.6″ size is huge for a smartphone and it means it will be able to soak much more photons in, bringing in better low-light shots, alike a Cyber-shot camera. It means Honami will have the biggest camera sensor in Android ecosystem with only Nokia 808 Pureview having a bigger sensor than Honami. It will also come with a Xenon or Dual LED flash, which will be 10 times brighter than ordinary flash on smartphones. In the software part it will house a all new image processing algorithm and a revamped camera UI, similar to Sony’s Cyber-shot digital cameras.

All this camera tech means Honami will be a hefty smartphone with around 10mm thickness. The body will be a combination of glass, metal and carbon fibre to give an ultra glamorous body. As for the phone itself will come with a 5-inch “WhiteMagic” 1080p full HD IPS-NEO display, a powerful 2.3GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 quad-core processor, 2GB of RAM and a huge 2700mAh battery.

Sony Honami could be announced at IFA 2013 to take place this September in Berlin. Let’s see if Sony is able to pull this off and create that “One” (pun intended) phone to rule the smartphone market.

Sony Xperia SP aka Huashan is revealed and that too by the company which manufactures it has allowed to capture a glimpse of it,way ahead before it actual launch  at the MWC. This time, it has been joined by Xperia V in the photo. Xperia SP will be joining Sony’s high-end line-up.

By looking at the images the images, we guess  the display size on Sony Xperia SL C530x to be 4.5-inch, but it is still  unconfirmed. Other specifications of the phone are expected to include 1.7 GHz dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 processor, Android 4.1.2, 720p display, and 1GB RAM.

We have also heard about this device is that there is a microSD card slot, which can be accessed by removing the batter cover. Battery however is not user-replaceable.

Sony is also expected to showcase Xperia L smartphone at MWC along with SP. Previous reports indicate that Xperia L will come with a FWVGA display, 1GHz dual-core processor, Adreno 305 GPU and Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean.

Below are the some of the images with phone display switched off, the design resembles strikingly to Samsung device design like the S advance or the Galaxy S2,if you ignore the  colored streaks at the bottom the phone my remind you of Samsung device from a distance,However looking the device from near is undoubted has the Sony appeal.

Here are some of the excerpts from the review

SCREEN DESIGN:

The rectangular design and build quality of the phone gives it the ‘premium model’ looks and makes it worthy of a flagship device. The 5 inch 1080p with a pixel density of 441ppi is in fact its USP. The good color reproduction and sharpness of the images produced will be the feature to look out for !

CAMERA:

Sony has stepped down from Xperia T’s 13MP camera to a 12MP for Sony Yuga (the reason is still not known). A new feature named PhotoBurst has been added which gives you ability to click unlimited no of pictures..!!(basically till the phone starts to overheat). Also a Superior Auto mode which not only lets you click photos and shoot a video simultaneously but also has options for both modes on screen and also efficiently differentiates between two modes such as Macro and Landscape.

PLATFORM:

It features the same hardware specs which are present in LG Optimus G and Nexus 4 except that Sony Yuga features a slightly higher clocking 1.7ghz processor. As claimed this package will offer you all transitions, graphic rendering, gaming, multitasking without any lag.

SOFTWARE, USER INTERFACE:

The device runs on 4.1.2 JellyBean which has almost all the 4.2 features. And the Sony’s Customized launcher for JellyBean feels awesome as you can see in the screenshots below and treat to watch for Sony Fanboys.

Some flaws :
The Power ON/OFF gray button looks bulky and doesn’t fit the overall design. Also the viewing angles are quite poor

Still seeing the powerhouse of a device this smartphone is, these flaws can be easily overlooked…

CONCLUSION:

Sony Yuga seems to be all-rounder and all set to give a tough competition to HTC Droid DNA and the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S4. It also falls in the league of 5 “HD screens which seems to be the way to go for the upcoming year.

Does this device have what it takes to be smartphone of the year or if not the first half of the year???  Do share your views below!

Sony has released their list for xperia smartphones who are going to receive future updates in 2013.  Many xperia users are disappointed with them as Sony xperia U, Xperia Sola etc. will not be updated to Jelly Bean and future android verions. Sony explained by giving following explanation,

The quality of Xperia’s software experience is dependent on a number of factors including: screen resolution, hardware platform and RAM. In the case of Xperia go, this combination came together in a way that meant the user experience running JB was not adversely affected.

Unfortunately, in the case of Xperia tipo, Xperia miro , Xperia U and Xperia sola this wasn’t the case – so we made the decision to keep them on Ice Cream Sandwich.”

Sony revealed its Jelly bean firmware candidates
Sony revealed its Jelly bean firmware candidates

Well, sony thinks that consumers are fool. WE consumers are much more aware than before.

Xperia u and xperia sola both are powered by 1ghz dual core processor with Mali-400 GPU. SO, that means sony wants to say that newer but slower phone, Xperia J powered by 1ghz single core processor can handle Jelly bean but more powerfull, xperia u  powered by 1ghz Dual Core Processor can not handle Jelly Bean. Very, Strange explanation by sony.

Also, Sony Xperia U , Miro, Sola, tipo are 2012 NXT series devices. According to Sony, 2012 launched devices can not run 2012 android version.

Sony’s decision for not updating these devices is very disappointing which will definitely harm Sony’s market share.

Sony mobiles have announced an affordable android mobile phone: The Sony Xperia E based on android version 4.1 (Jelly-bean) which is expected to come in first quarter of 2013. Xperia E will be available in three vibrant colours i.e. Black, White and Pink. Though the 3.15 mega-pixel camera is below the average but it can take average quality pictures.

Xperia E will be available in Single & Dual sim (GSM + GSM). It will be equipped with High Definition Voice Quality and xLOUD audio technology. 3.5″ inch HVGA screen enables efficient browsing and great user experience. Sony has tied up with Box to offer 50 GB of cloud storage for life with the purchase of these Xperia smartphones.

Major difference apart from dual sim & single sim functionality between the two is that the Xperia E runs Android 4.1 Jelly Bean wheras, Xperia E Dual runs Android 4.0 ICS but it can be upgradable to Jelly Bean later
