Samsung Galaxy Grand (GT-I9080) vs Samsung Galaxy SII (GT-I9100) - AndroidNova.org

Howdy Readers,

Post the launch of Samsung Galaxy Grand GT-I9080 in India, we have observed a lot of buzz growing regarding this device on various social networking sites as well as the local markets.

Some says the Korean Manufacturer has designed this device to resemble like Samsung Galaxy SIII or Note II, while others say it is the Samsung Galaxy SII packed in a bigger form, So we at AndroidNova.org decided to actually compare the two devices minutely for the readers and provide them the detailed analysis for the same.

To start of with Design:

Dimentions: 143.5 x 76.9 x 9.6 mm 125.3 x 66.09 x 8.5 mm

The next comparision ground is the Technical Specification part:

The next comparision ground is the Multimedia part

Samsung Galaxy Grand(GT-I9080) Samsung Galaxy SII(GT-I9100)

Bluetooth: v4.0 v3.0
Battery: 2100 MAh 1650 MAh

The Verdict:

With 11% slimmer and 28% lighter the Samsung Galaxy SII‘s sleek and light weighted design gives a sober and trendy look and is easier to handle and carry when compared to Samsung Galaxy Grand, however the 5 inched device might give a better surfing and video experience but we feel the 4.3 inched super ALMOED doesnt let this device make a bigger one. The Processor, Internal Memory, HDMI, DLNA stll proves the giant beast Samsung Galaxy SII way better then the latest phablet Samsung Galaxy Grand. However the two devices are currently available in the same price range in the market with Samsung Galaxy SII slightly more expensive then Samsung Galaxy Grand, the price diffrence between the two seems legit and clearly we feel the formal flagship is somewhere better then the latest release.

Thank You, please do not forget to leave your valuable feedbacks.

Are these multi core processors really ready?

The saga began in February 2011, when Samsung launched its Galaxy S2 running on dual core processor. Samsung Galaxy S2 changed the definition of Smartphones and captured the market with its real smart features. The legend continued in 2012, with the first Quad-core processor phone HTC One X, thereafter, Samsung Galaxy S-III, LG Optimus G & LG Nexus 4.

Twist:- Intel Against The World :

At that point of time when every brand was trying to capture market with the ever so snappy, Quad core processor technology, Intel launched its Xolo X900-Orange Sandiego running on 1.6 GHz single core Intel atom processor which was earlier expected that being a single core processor, it will not able to defeat these multi-core processors. But, results proved it wrong. Intel’s single core processors performed beyond expectations and are able to compete with dual core processors and with some quad core processorss. Results of AnTuTu ® Benchmark of some dual core phones phones are as under:-

Are these multi core processors really ready?
Are these multi core processors really ready?

Our Team’s Tech Expert Dhiren Dash, who earlier righteously predicted the performance of Intel’s Single Core Atom Processor, expressed that:-
“Better design and better technology is more important. Merely adding cores doesn’t mean better performance. It’s how the processor handles the processes and the interrupts with minimum power consumption is what matters”

Now, questions arises, Are these multi core processors really ready to perform? Or companies just want to bring and sell in the name of “NEW” factor? Or better ported firmware is the necessity? Share your views & comments

Samsung Touchwiz - AndroidNova.org

According to Phonearena.com, at the Ekoparty security conference, Ravi Borgaonkar presented a session entitled “dirty use of USSD Codes in Cellular Network” which demonstrated how with a few lines of html code the data can be wiped on Samsung Touchwiz Android devices if you click it, since Touchwiz has a feature to dial a code when link is clicked.

In addition to that, this also happens with QR scans and NFC –Samsung’s proprietary  TouchWiz makes the Phone dialer to automatically execute the sequence, which can potentially force a factory reset code onto your unsuspecting phone and wipe your data.

Also according to tweaker.net they verified that this is working at least in Galaxy S II and Galaxy Advance but a Galaxy SIII with a standard firmware loaded with Android 4.0.4 is not vulnerable to the browser hack , but it’s NFC variant is. Also according to tweaker.net the Galaxy Nexus and Galaxy Note are also not vulnerable to the problem According to theverge.com, Samsung Galaxy S3 AT&T variant, with the carrier’s version , is confirmed to have this problem. Samsung says that they are “looking into” the reports.

Here newsfactor.com states the new additions for the devices that this security hole exists are also the Galaxy Beam and Galaxy Ace, also we read that with the use of the same security hole you can deactivate the SIM card at the same time it wipes the phone. According to the same website, many security companies are reporting that malware attacks, spyware, mobile bot-nets and destructive Trojans for Android are on the rise, as expected as Android is the one of the most popular Mobile OS out there. According to the same website and other security companies, many ad-supported companies are accessing personal information without user’s notification or consent.

Here is video demonstrating the theoretical disaster

It was observed by us in the past few months, the Korean Manufacturer acted like a machine gun in pushing new devices but was quite unresponsive in terms of pushing updates to those devices. But things now seems to be changed and it is definitely in the favor of all its customers.

We remember many devices, which were capable and deserving were neglected by the manufacturer, but Samsung Galaxy SII, a best seller device still, which was launched with Android v 2.3 aka GingerBread, was later shipped with Android v4.0 and was given an OTA update to its GingerBread based users, its not still ignored by its manufacturers and a packed surprise for those is on its way.

Hoping Samsung to release the JellyBean Update soon, it wins the lost trust from its million consumers.

So Folks, cross your fingers, a surprise is on your way.

Galaxy S3 Black is nothing but a recolored version of latest Galaxy s3. Galaxy S3 Black would add Black in the list of present available colors of S3 – Pebble Blue & Marbel White. This shadowy beast won’t have any difference in specifications with current versions of S3. The new black version is set to come with a powerful quad-core 1.4GHz Exynos CPU, a 4.8-inch Super AMOLED Plus screen and Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. There is no news of any chances for the S3 Black to come with Android 4.1 Jelly Bean. It’ll have the same price tag as the other 2 S3′s available in the market.

All three new handsets are reported to be available in the market in the last quarter of this year, before the holiday season, to boost their sales.

Apple Vs Samsung Smartphones- AndroidNova.org

We are all aware of the Android – Apple war that has been going on for more than 2 years now. However, there is also another war that has been going on the other side between the 2 smartphone manufacturing giants, Apple and Samsung. There is still an widespread iPhone epidemic even with the growing Android market, but this quarter the records of iPhone’s shipping have been broken by a faithful manufacturer of Android devices, Samsung.

THE FACTS

According to smartphone market analysts, this is how the data looks for the second quarter of the year 2012:

  • Samsung has shipped approximately – 50.2 million smartphones with a market share of around 34.6%. This gives them almost 90% increase in the market share vis-a-vis the 2nd quarter of previous year (2011: 18.3%).
  • This is reportedly the largest number of shipments made by a smartphone manufacturer.
  • Apple has recorded a shipment of just 26 million in Q2 of 2012 with a drop in the market share from 18.4% in Q2 of 2011 to 17.8% in Q2 of 2012.

This steep increase in shipments and market share will be primarily on account of great amount of contribution from the Samsung Galaxy series especially, the Samsung Galaxy NoteSamsung Galaxy Y, Samsung Galaxy S and Samsung Galaxy SII.

By this record, Samsung has posted a profit of $ 5.86 billion for the quarter ended June, 2012.

AN ANALYSIS

Apple‘s focus is on the high-end / high-range market with their very few, but powerful variety of models. On other hand, Samsung has targeted the mass population with phones such as Samsung Galaxy Y, Samsung Galaxy Ace, Samsung Galaxy Pop, etc. Its a known fact that Samsung offers more variety as compared to Apple. We believe that, this market focus is the strong factor that has led Samsung to break records this quarter and gain a better position that Apple in the market.
