Nexus 7 With the Launch of Nexus 7 (16GB), google raised our hopes and we could also see the beast LG Nexus 4 in the Indian market soon.

HP in its tablet share was completely down and out with its non-existent TouchPad running the then redundant WebOS (which is now acquired by LG) and an outdated series of Ubislates. But with the launch of HP Slate 7 on the opening day of MWC 2013, its resurgence was quite pronounced.

HP displayed their new range in two colors, one being a much attractive and ravishing red (looking pretty hot!) and the other a not-so-appealing greenish grey color. The tablet has used Stock Android 4.1 JellyBean without any customizations except for the fact that they added a new feature for printing wirelessly using HP printers.  Other than the features mentioned above another factor which would catch the attention of not-so techie customers is its PRICE. It’s priced at $169 giving a direct completion to the likes on Nexus 7 and Kindle HD

Wireless access to HP printers via the smartphone is one of the few new additional features added to the original JellyBean UI

Conclusion:

Well, if you are a citizen of US then I would really recommend you to go for Nexus 7 because it will be among the first to receive updates and it is also superior in terms of hardware specs. But if you live in places other than US, then going for Slate 7 is a worthy option. Not only is the tablet coming from a reputed company but also for above mentioned specs, $169 price tag can seriously be considered as cheap!

Yes, you might be wondering how does an automobile manufacturing company land up in a website dedicated for Android devices. Yes it’s that very same HYUNDAI which has come up with a 7 inch-ICS 1.4 GHz Quad Core tablet named Hyundai T7. Well the surprise element doesn’t stop here; it’s available for a mere $166, competing with the likes of Amazon Kindle and Google Nexus 7

Looking at it, it’s a rip-off of Galaxy Note 8.0 or a super-sized version of Galaxy S3. And the similarity does end here; it is driven by a Samsung made Exynos 4412 chipset the same one found in Galaxy S3. Leaving those similarities aside, there are many other excellent features bolstering this device. Along with the Quad core SoC, Hyundai T7 also packs 1GB DDR3 RAM, Mali 400 GPU, 1280×800 resolution, 8GB Internal (32 GB expandable) and a HDMI output

Here’s a list of official specs:

  • 7 inch IPS capacitive touchscreen
  • 1280×800 resolution
  • Android 4.0.4 ICS
  • Exynos 4412 quad core chipset (Cortex A9)
  • Mali 400 MP4 GPU
  • 1 GB DDR3 RAM
  • 8GB internal (32 GB Expandable)
  • 2.0 MP front and 0.3 MP back camera
  • HDMI output
  • 3300 mAh battery

As you can see Hyundai has tried to cover almost every aspect possible in the tablet and have managed to put all that in an affordable price tag. Apart from falling short on a few of them, they have come up successful with the rest.

Pros:

  1. First and foremost, the PRICE; $166 for a Quad Core tablet, what else can you ask for???
  2. Generally mid level tablets are launched having a RAM of 512/768 MB. But Hyundai T7 packs 1GB of RAM ensuring smooth transitions
  3. It’s quite light weight at 303gms.
  4. Camera provided on the front as well on the back side(unlike Nexus 7)
  5.  Resolution of 1280×800 will ensure crisp and clear display.
  6. Chipset of Exynos+Mali should take care of heavy multitasking and gaming.
  7. MicroHDMI output, quite a useful add-on.

Cons:

  1. The major issue will be battery; it says work time of 5 hours but in reality would last up only 3-4 hours.
  2. Fully plastic body giving it an inferior build quality.
  3. Still on ICS 4.0.4, and it would be highly unlikely to receive an future update from Hyundai
  4. 8GB internal memory.

Hyundai T7 is officially available at PandaWill , who support worldwide shipping.

Conclusion:

Apart from the battery life which is the only major concern, Hyundai T7 might be the first tablet to break the sub $200 mark and provide you features that of a mid to high level tablet. Seeing such launches, its high time companies like Samsung and Apple come up with budget friendly tablets with equally worthy specs.

Google which produces there flagship tablet series called “NEXUS” in which Google has always tried to do something special for every NEXUS tablet though it may be with its software configuration or with its hardware and due to such experiment’s their tablet has become people’s first choice of buying in recent years.

The Nexus 7 which has been labeled as one of the most hack able device of 2012 thanks to Google’s innovative ideas while making a tablet which differs from its previous version in some way or the other. And now they again included some features like upgrading it to JELLY BEAN OS, as well as including buttons for gaming. So, for extreme gamers this one is going out to be a perfect partner during traveling.

The new NEXUS 7 UI is not just a device; it’s a complete new device. With new OS, when Google tried to design a 7 inch tablet they completely changed the conventional tablet powered by android OS. The NEXUS 7 UI is not just a phone, or a tablet but mix of both.

Before the N7, Android gave you two different system bar layouts: The 2 bar layout (right), which has the button bar on the bottom, centered buttons, and a status bar on the top; and the 1 bar layout (left), which has a combined button and status bar on the bottom, with left aligned buttons. Conventional wisdom said the 2 bar layout was for phones, and the 1 bar layout was for tablets.

Their rotation behavior is different too. For the 2 bar layout the button does not move with orientation, and the status bar does. It means in portrait mode they remains at bottom while the status bar goes to top, while in landscape mode the buttons are on the right, and the status bar is on the top. The 1 bar layout is much simpler, the single bar moves with the orientation, so everything is always on the bottom.

This was the outlook of bars till the NEXUS 7 was launched. The left one was how the phone worked and the right one was how the tablets worked. When NEXUS 7 launched the clean tablet/phone came crashing down.

This is the Nexus 7′s system UI. It’s a third style of device – a phone/tablet hybrid. The dual-bar, centered button layout of a phone and all-orientations are equal rotation of a tablet.

It looks like the most logical rotation style for dual bar UI, but things don’t work in this way on phone, because in landscape the vertical space is at premium, and due to dual bar it will consume more screen space hence less space for display, but it’s not with the case of NEXUS 7 due to its 7 inch display you got more breathtaking space, so Google opted for consistent button locations- they’re always on top.

Due to this kind of button arrangements it has really boosted its gaming usability.  With bottom centered buttons, you are much less likely to accidentally hit a system button while blowing stuff up.

Consider a typical “touch screen touch pad” control scheme, like a dead trigger. On the above fig, which is a Galaxy Nexus, your right thumb is very near to back and home button, and while gaming as you all know we never care about buttons and in such case during extreme situation in games and by your fault you accidentally touches  any of the button, then your whole gaming session will be lost. And you may feel to break this device into two parts.

While in the case of N7 the whole system buttons has been placed at top center position hence you will hardly get time to accidentally touch back or home button while you’re gaming sessions. Even the positioning of start/select button of N7 is reminiscent of a real controller. In fact, hold an xbox 360 controller and N7 controller you will see the staring resemblance.

While the hid-able buttons are good as it would resolve the problem of accidentally hitting the system button as well as the doubt which sets in our mind while playing. “Where are my buttons?”A problem might occur because of hidden buttons.  Phone doesn’t have such space to hold such layouts and it would be interesting to see what will be the layout for a 10 inch tablet.

It has been praised as a good media consumption device. Matias Duarte, the head of Android UX, even confirmed the button placement gaming considerations in a Google+ thread. The N7′S weight and size makes it perfect gadget for gaming and the new button layout makes it more interesting to work over it.

Most Hackable Android Tablet of 2012 - AndroidNova.org

Google’s Android platform which has become so popular in recent years and Google was the first one who made an Android based Tablet running on Android 4.1 Jellybean and brought it in the market with their flagship model termed as NEXUS .

Last twelve months the android based tablet contenders in the market has influxed so much due to which the competition of preparing tablet with best features and with less cost has been seen.

Every tablet was special in some way or the other but what was truely missing was the line of the tablets which offered up the full range of hacking options. Enter the google NEXUS tablet.

NEXUS series of tablets has always been google’s top priority gadgets and it has always tried to do something new for its whole NEXUS series of tablets due to which the OEMs has always tried to do something special in terms of hardware configuration.

And guess what…! The new NEXUS 7 has been configured in such a way that it can be hacked(rooted) very easily as Google wanted to do something special and they hit it in right cords. Even the Android Development (unofficial one) is more in Nexus series than any other phone, tab manufacturers.check out Xda forums regarding Nexus 7 development and you will be amazed to see number of developers on this. Google did not provide an extra layer to its hardware due to which it can be hacked very easily without any difficulty. Other contenders in this market has never tried to do such tricky things but Google opened new dimention for making tablets.

Google’s tough contender Apple even though has made revolution by introducing tablets but they never tried to give such user friendly product to there customers as Google did.

As far as the specification of NEXUS 7 is considered it packs with the quad-core Tegra 3 T30L processor, a 7-inch 1280×800 IPS display covered in Gorilla Glass, NFC, 1 GB of RAM, and up to 32 GB of internal storage.

Though in terms of spec wise it hardly one upped Amazon’s Kindle Fire and it offers viable option for those who wants apple.

Google has tried hard to make a product which has something to offer for its users by making it user friendly and getting a tag of MOST HACKABLE DEVICE of 2012 for its Nexus 7.
