 NASA’s Future Nano-satellites

After the successful programme of NASA’s multiple rover on Mars, space exploration is commonly thought in everyone’s minds. Such projects has held the american pride over space exploration and research.

One of these projects is the CubeSat Launch initiative (CSLI), in which nanosatellites built by teams across the United States will be launched into orbit, on rockets planned for upcoming launches. The satellites are around 4 inches long, have a volume of one quart and weigh in the region of 3 pounds.

This is very interesting, but what does it have to do with Android? Well, with CubeSat, there’s a smaller project known as PhoneSat.

The idea behind PhoneSat is that engineers working on these satellites will use small  electronics that are available to everyone and using open source software such Android OS, to achieve the implementation of using a smartphone as a thinking unit in a satellite As you may have guessed from the name, the team will be using smartphones as the main component in its nanosatellites.

So what is the smartphone of choice for engineers working on the PhoneSat project? T

The first model, PhoneSat 1.0, actually uses a Google Nexus One.

Now, before you compare the list of all the phones that are more powerful than the original Nexus, let’s just put this in  thought by comparing its specs to that of the Curiosity rover.

The Nexus One is powered by a 1GHz Qualcomm CPU,while the Curiosity packs a PowerPC G3 processor that was used by Apple in the 90′s. The Nexus One has 512MB RAM, Curiosity has 256MB RAM. The Nexus One weighs 130g, Curiosity weighs… a lot more. now after above comparison we feel the Nexus One really isn’t a bad choice.

we  also have to take into consideration the time it takes for engineers to test their software on smartphones. Once the nanosatellite is in orbit, NASA will have a tough time trying to remotely update the software on a phone that’s 150km away. Expect an OTA 150 Kms away from earth using satellite broadband .Due to this, utmost care is necessary so that the phone software is bug-free and works as the engineers intended.

Test have already been run to determine the physical durability of the Nexus One at high speeds and high altitudes. In 2010, two Nexus Ones were launched on rockets. Unfortunately, one of those rockets crashed and sent the Nexus to smartphone heaven, but the other one landed safely and the Nexus One was completely unscathed. Further tests have been run since, including one that sent the PhoneSat 1.0 into high altitude on a balloon last year.

The next step for engineers is to finally launch the PhoneSat into its space orbit, where it will report back to Earth with its current status and send some images back, too. Rather than provide the original model with lots of functionality, the team wants to use it in order to see how it copes in orbit. Further functionality will be included in future models.

Future Models

The team is already building the second model, PhoneSat 2.0, which will use a slightly more powerful Samsung Nexus S as opposed to the Nexus One used in the original. The satellite will comprise of the phone, as well as a two-way S-band radio, solar panels, and a GPS receiver. The solar panels are crucial, as they will provide the unit with power whilst in orbit, and the radio will relay instructions to the satellite from Earth.

NASA plans to launch two PhoneSat 1.0 units and one PhoneSat 2.0 with the maiden flight of Orbital Sciences Corporation’s Antares rocket later this year.

With each PhoneSat prototype costing just $3500 to build, w. Using everyday consumer electronics available to everyone is a great way to reduce costs, and allow teams from universities across the countries to work on projects.

As well as using PhoneSat for low-cost Earth observations, the team at NASA also plans to use similar units to assist with moon exploration and testing new components for space flight.

Neil Armstrong, an American hero who died few ago took dark secrets with himself, we would never know. The cold war between America and Russia to be superpower led President Kennedy to initiate a man on the moon mission. There has been always controversy over lunar mission. Many say they never went to the moon, the movie was filmed in the desert. Others controversy is over a two minute period of radio silence that surprised viewers and fueled many theories over what really happened.

“The Doomsday Conspiracy”, a science fiction by Shidney Sheldon states that whenever scientist or physicist had a contact with extra-terrestrials, in few days by some or other reason they had accident and died. Is that coincidence? Or government deliberately wants to hide it? Same is case with Lunar Mission. According to alleged leaked government documents and photographs, Armstrong did not just see the barren landscape televised to millions, but two huge extraterrestrial spacecraft watched the Apollo 11 landing, and observed the Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin moon walks.

NASA’s cover up about the two minute period of radio silence was that the problem arose from one of two television cameras overheating, thus disrupting the reception. Do you believe it!!! What really happened!!! Armstrong and Aldrin saw something else watching them! Timothy Good, author of Above Top Secret(1988) HAM radio operators receiving the VHF signals transmitted from Apollo 11 to NASA’s Houston headquarters, intercepted the following message which NASA screened from the public in the missing two minutes:

“Mission Control:

What’s there ? Mission Control calling Apollo 11.

Apollo 11:

These babies are huge, sir … enormous….Oh, God, you wouldn’t believe it! I’m telling you there are other space craft out there… lined up on the far side of the crater edge… they’re on the moon watching us. (Above Top Secret, p. 384.)”

Maurice Chatelain, is a retired NASA communications engineer who helped develop the communications system used in the Apollo moon missions. In his 1975 book, Our Cosmic Ancestors, he wrote:-

“[O]nly moments before Armstrong stepped down the ladder to set foot on the Moon, two UFOs hovered overhead. Edwin Aldrin took several pictures of them. Some of these photographs have been published in the June 1975 issue of Modern People magazine.” (p. 25)

He also said, “…all Apollo and Gemini flights were followed, both at a distance and sometimes also quite closely, by space vehicles of extraterrestrial origin – flying saucers, or UFOs, if you want to call them by that name. Every time it occurred, the astronauts informed Mission Control, who then ordered absolute silence.”

So NASA is aware about extra-terrestrial life? Do aliens exist? Were UFO sightings a common occurrence during Apollo missions?

Buzz Aldrin described how the Apollo 11 astronauts avoiding mentioning the word UFO in reporting what they were witnessing, and instead asked Houston about the location of the Saturn V launch rocket.

According to Timothy Good, Dr Vladimir Azhazha, a physicist and Professor of Mathematics at Moscow University at the time:

Neil Armstrong relayed the message to Mission Control that two large, mysterious objects were watching them afte3r having landed near the moon module. But his message was never head by the public – because NASA censored it. (Above Top Secret, p. 384)

So why did NASA eventually terminate the Apollo missions if extraterrestrial visitors were there and watching the Earth? The answer according to Armstrong, as relayed by an unnamed Professor at a NASA symposium is as follows:

Professor: What really happened out there with Apollo 11?

Armstrong: It was incredible … of course, we had always known there was a possibility … the fact is, we were warned off. There was never any questions then of a space station or a moon city.

Professor: How do you mean “warned off”?

Armstrong: I can’t go into details, except to say that their ships were far superior to ours both in size and technology – Boy, where they big! … and menacing …. No, there is no question of a space station.

Professor: But NASA had other missions after Apollo 11?

Armstrong: Naturally – NASA was committed at that time, and couldn’t risk a panic on earth…. But it really was a quick scoop and back again. (Above Top Secret, p. 186)”

No one knows what exactly happened? Perhaps NASA will one day release an official version of what really happened, or have they already done so through a fictional movie admission by Buzz Aldrin? In the movie Transformers: Dark of the Moon, Buzz Aldrin comes forward to reveal a version of the truth about what he and Armstrong saw on the moon. In the movie he says on a secret black operations radio line to NASA, during public radio silence, while on the moon:

Buzz Aldrin: You cannot believe what we’re seeing…

Black Ops NASA Technician: We are not alone after all, are we?

Buzz Aldrin: No, sir. We’re not alone.”

If the above events are true, it must have been very difficult for Armstrong to keep official silence about what he really saw on the moon for over four decades. Perhaps that explains his reclusive nature after the lunar missions, and public reticence in describing his personal experiences on the moon. If so, he remained true to his word and kept silence despite any personal reservations to the contrary. Neil Armstrong was an American Patriot to the end.
