A mystery LG smartphone has popped up online with no significant specifications about the device. Posted by our friend blog evleaks, the phone might be the company’s Optimus G2 smartphone, or an upcoming successor to Optimus LTE 2.

The phone represents a paradigm change in its design process for the Korean manufacturer as we have not seen something like this from the company in a long time. There are a few glimpses of Nexus 4 like design but that is all which looks familiar.

There are no front capacitive or physical buttons on-board, indicating that the company is going to use virtual buttons. The leaked benchmarklisting of Optimus G2 also showed the presence of virtual buttons – suggesting that this leaked image can turn out to be of Optimus G2. However, we will wait for more concrete information before coming to a conclusion.

Evleaks also uploaded a close-up shot of the top bezel showing front camera and a little of that weird looking ear-piece.

The display will be more than 5-inches, but given the fact that part of screen real estate will be used for virtual buttons, the final usable display space will most likely be close to 5-inches only.

We expect to see more such leaks in the coming days to get more information about the phone.Lets hope this phone makes leaps LG ahead in the smartphone war.

LG may have Acquired webOS From HP to Power their SmartTV’s

LG may have just announced that it has acquired the much-troubled webOS from HP as reported by CNET. But instead of using this unproven mobile OS to power smartphones or tablets, it’s planning to roll out smart TVs which will make use of the OS.

The deal which may be kept secret, will see LG take control of the source code for webOS, along with “related documentation, engineering talent, and related webOS websites.” It also gets licenses from HP for use with its WebOS products, along with a slew of patents HP obtained from Palm. There’s no word on how much the deal was worth. As, all the company officials kept mum when we emailed regarding this topic.

The news gives emphasis to rumors which sprang up last year, claiming that LG was working on a range of TVs which used webOS. Clearly, LG has its eye on the software for some time.

It’s the proper end of a rather bad period in the life of webOS, which has been badly managed by HP,like they managed the minicomputer project during Steve Wozniak as an Engineer days back in 60′s. In fact, insiders reported last year that webOS was doomed from the outset at HP because “there were neither the right leaders nor the right engineers to do the job.” Hopefully LG can promise WebOS by  making its life good.

Just 5 months after the launch of the Original Optimus G, here comes it successor – LG Optimus G Pro. LG decided to launch their device just one week before the start of Mobile World Congress (MWC 2013) in an event in Korea. However this device launched is different from the one launched one week earlier in Japan. The Japan version spans 5 inches but shares the same name! This device is speculated to be released for the Koreans next week but the North Americans will have to wait till the second quarter of 2013.

For the LG Optimus G Pro, LG upgraded their screen size from 4.7 to 5.5 inches. Not only this, but the display also flaunts a Full HD resolution with pixel density of 400ppi.

Battery with a colossal capacity of 3140 mAh:

More the battery, means you are ensured of much better screen time . However the increment in the battery size for LG Optimus G Pro has led to the device being slightly thicker than its previous version.

No new Android Phones from LG this CES

LG opened up in the CES 2013 with a blank space on the mobile  side. If you like OLED and/or Ultra HD TVs, then you will feel good about the Life’s Good, as they announced a  plethora of options for your viewing pleasure.

In the Mobile side. They grabbed my attention with the Nexus 4 and Optimus G, so perhaps  there’s something worthwhile from their side. Their tagline for 2013 is “Touch the smart life.” They were stressing integration across their product lines and trying to ensure that consumers are only involved into the top of the interface pyramid with the science behind the device working at the bottom.

“The Smart Home Service is a perfect example of LG’s commitment to bringing true technology convergence into the consumer’s home,” said Dr. Scott Ahn, Chief Technology Officer of LG Electronics. “SmartShare offers a variety of ways to share digital content between devices. SmartControl lets the user take charge of their LG home appliance and entertainment products from a single location using the SmartControl application for smartphones and Smart TVs.”

NFC played a role in this with tags on appliances that allow you to see and adjust settings from your phone by doing the standard NFC bump. Simple one touch wireless connections would allow you to control and monitor your LG washer/dryer, refrigerator, stove and, of course, your robot vacuum, which has built in cameras. That’s great , and I  love that a fully connected home is where things are going in the future.

Google TV received a applause with LG producing  up to seven TVs in five screen sizes for 2013. These will also feature the “magic remote,” which gives you the ability to do one-click voice search, to point and click with a finger in mid-air and finally the questionably valuable ability to change channels by tracing numbers in the air.

Specifications regarding any 2013 phones were  not available for the press, as they chose  to remind us how  great the Optimus G and Nexus 4 continue to be. Hero devices in multiple sizes in the first half of 2013 were the sum total of what they confirmed, so look for more come Mobile World Congress at the end of February.

So,from CES 2013 LG gave us nothing great news for our  Android fanboys at AndroidNova blog.Hence we are fulfilling the thirst by just looking at Nexus 4 and Optimus G for now.We are literally counting days for MWC 2013, if all mobile manufacturers start behaving like what LG did at CES 2013.

LG announces new Google TV models which may be revealed at CES 2013

The south Korean manufacturer LG is soon going to rock the new-year by announcing a new line of TVs that will be powered by Google TV 3.0. The TV models are expected to debut at CES 2013.

We have got information about LG’s 2 new TV models GA7900 and GA6400. Which will come in varying screen sizes ranging from 42-inches to 60-inches. Currently, LG offers a 47-inch and a 55-inch Google TV model. They are expected to be available in the first half of 2013 in the US.

The televisions will boast features like voice-recognition and Prime Time quick guide and also enable users to search and watch over 100,000 available movies and TV episodes simultaneously.

Furthermore, they will come integrated with OnLive cloud gaming service, that does not require a separate/dedicated console box like Xbox360/Ninetendo Wii /PS3  and is likely to offer more than 300 high-end gaming titles. Its great to see IaaS (Infrastructure as a Service implementation for the gaming cloud).users don’t need to worry about hooking up console to this TV,this will enable users to save money on expensive console and also save their space in the home.

Users are required to use the service with a controller that is directly connected to the TV set. A new remote control dubbed as Magic Remote Qwerty comes with a built-in microphone, gesture input controls and a QWERTY keyboard as well. this remote actually works on 2.4 GHZ wireless frequencies as compared to Infrared light based normal TV remotes

The new redesigned Smart Home interface stacks folders into varied types of “cards” for apps and other content. The new My Interest Card can even display useful information including real-time weather and customisable news.

The new units sport a sleek and modern look called CINEMA SCREEN. we felt that the looks similar to current Samsung Smart TV models, courtesy the Korean manufacturer’s CINEMA SCREEN design, which was until now seen only in the Cinema 3D Smart TV. As a result, the television has a minimized bezel giving the TV a streamlined appearance while creating the impression of a borderless display.

Havis Kwon, President and CEO of the LG Electronics Home Entertainment Company said in an interview that ”LG is committed to providing diverse home entertainment options that offer the most satisfying user experience and the latest LG Smart TVs with Google TV do just that,” . He further added, “They deliver a stellar user experience by merging the latest Google TV platform with LG’s proven Smart TV technology. The result is a comprehensive system that is groundbreaking in its simplicity.”

Nexus 4
Yea folks. Why? As reported earlier in our website , the nexus 4 for supposed to launch on November 30. But there’s been no news so far about the launch , so expect a certain delay of the launch by at least a month or two. So most probably a Month or two. So the question is should you wait for it? My answer would certainly be YES. Here’s why and I will be explaining this on terms of one reason and that is Android Fragmentation.

Android fragmentation is a problem that Android phones are suffering ever since it launched.Like for example if I take two phones. One from Google like the Galaxy Nexus and the other from lets say from Motorola the Droid Razr. Both these phones launched at the same time in late 2011. But if you see the official firmware they run on, The Galaxy Nexus runs on the latest Jellybean 4.1.2 (4.2 will be there in a few days) while the Razr runs on Ice Cream Sandwich 4.0.4 ( It took 8 months to get it).

So the difference is clear. If you buy a device from Google you are guaranteed to get the latest software and If you buy other devices from Samsung HTC Motorola Sony etc. you have to wait and wait to get it and sometimes the device never ends up getting the upgrade.

Yea there are many advantages of those devices like Samsung which has many touchwiz features like the recently famous feature of multi-window which is not even a stock android features. And yea LG as a mobile brand hasn’t been doing well before the launch of Nexus 4 and there is that mentality people have that because its from LG the phone won’t be that good , but trust me or Androidnova this is a phone from Google and LG so you are getting the best of the best when you are getting this device.

We also heard some of the drawbacks of this device and that is the lack of 4G LTE support but being an Indian consumer that’s something which you should least worry about as in India 3G is still developing stages.

So the bottom line is wait for the device to launch in India. The hardware in it is just supreme and with the latest software updates it will only get better.
