CyanogenMod member betrays CM team, Demands $10K for relinquishing control - AndroidNova.org
CyanogenMod member betrays CM team, Demands $10K for relinquishing control - AndroidNova.org

Imagine , the love of your life , the girl you adored and loathed upon for 5 beautiful years suddenly betrays you and demands an extortion sum for handing over all your private , intimate moments and things ever recorded  ! The very earth below your feet seems to shake and you are brought down with a THUD ! Such is the nature of what has now happened with the greatest Android  Modding project to ever hit ANDROID – The CyanogenMod Project !

The Cyanogen Mod started releasing his original ROM for the G1 on XDA forums. Back then, there was no “CyanogenMod” in terms of the organization and structure that CM has currently. The builds were hosted on  Steve kondik personal machine, the original server was a donation of spare kit from Phaseburn. And due to the small size (and lack of funds), the CyanogenMod.com domain was bought by a third-party back in 2009 and donated to CM, when CM was a much smaller project and had no online presence except XDA forums.

Fast-forward 3 years, CM have 3 extremely powerful build boxes donated by the community and an army of developers, contributors, and supported devices. But, a little over a week ago, things took a bad turn.

BETRAYED :

A post by CyanogenMod Team on its Facebook page reveals the horrible news for any darn Android fan-boy like us. CyanogenMod’s FB page has stated in its post that,

One of its trusted member’s, handling web presence of the CM web sites has betrayed the team and was setting up deals under the CM name, impersonating Cyanogen himself. Plenty of satisfying evidence provided by some sites to the CM team proved that this wasn’t a misunderstanding or one-time thing.

According to the FB post, CM says that the team has been checkmated by the rogue member by gaining trust with CM’s web presence threby getting control over the CM social network accounts (Twitter/FB) as well as domains (cyanogenmod.com). For safety purposes, the CM Team changed their official Social accounts ownership. The CM team asked the estranged member again to make the transition nicely, he responded with the following :

“Hi, so you think by removing all my access across the infrastructure was going to be a great idea? We had a chat yesterday, you’ve decided to end this bitter. How about I just change the DNS entries right now. CM will practically go down.”- DISGRACEFUL WE SAY !

The rouge member’s shocking betrayal may not only cost the whole Non-Profit CM project with an extortion sum close to 10,000$ but also if the team fails to meet his demands he’s  threatening  to disturb this scene by  “ending it bitter” .

Today,  all of CM’s records were deleted, and cyanogenmod.com is en-route a slow poisonous death, being replaced by blank pages and non-existing sites. @cyanogenmod.com e-mail is now being directed to an unknown mail-server which is not under control of any CM’s trusted member.

The CM team has started the cleanup process by jump-starting the dispute process with ICANN to reclaim their domain. In the meantime CM has instructed its users and members to utilize CyanogenMod.org and all applicable subdomains.

As mentioned above, the rouge member also managed CM’s Google Apps for Business account, and therefore  @cyanogenmod.com email addresses. These addresses should be considered discontinued until further notice.  In the meantime, please contact cmcyanogenmod@gmail.com for any dev-rel questions or other issues. A mailserver is being established to transition dev-rel and other support email addresses. CM Team will update those when they are finalized, and they will utilize the .org domain.

The real CM team itself has not made a profit off CM and that is not their goal. But to have one of their own member betraying the community like this cant be comprehended. However, the good news for the project was that the funds directed to Cyanogen (aka Shade@chemlab.org) did indeed reach their destination and are not affected.

Team ANDROIDNOVA wishes the CM Team, be up and running, all guns blazing, delivering 1 nightly after another, 1 beautiful ROM after another. We know what CM has done for The Android Open Source Community and we wish them a speedy recovery. We Encourage our readers to be alert and careful while downloading CyanogenMods from unkown sources, dealing with people claiming to be CyanogenMod Team members,Commericial transactions with phoney members. Use only www.cyanogenmod.org as the teams website till further notice. Your safety is our concern.

This News may sound something stupid. But, Its True. The no-more Manufactured Device HP Touch-pad which shipped with HP Web OS, has got its own share of Google Latest Android OS 4.1 i.e Jellybean.

If you own a HP TouchPad you can get Jelly Bean now with this unofficial port of CyanogenMod 10. As you can see in the video below, the OS runs  smoothly on the tablet. Still the port isn’t polished, and it’s missing some basic functionality. For example, video and graphics acceleration doesn’t Work and there’s no audio yet.
