Samsung vs Apple - AndroidNova.org
Samsung vs Apple - AndroidNova.org

Based on androidguys apple will start their “anti-Android” or “anti-samsung” lawsuit going again ,and  they are looking to add yet another device in list of culprits. Apple says that :

Samsung recently released its newest smartphone, the Samsung Galaxy S4, which began shipping in late April 2013. Based on Apple’s analysis of the Samsung Galaxy S4, Apple has concluded that it is an infringing device and accordingly intends to move for leave to add the Samsung Galaxy S4 as an infringing product. Upon the grant of such motion, Apple will eliminate (without prejudice) one of the Accused Products named herein, so that it will continue to accuse only 22 products of infringement at this stage of the litigation.

They say that Samsung Galaxy S4 is an infringing device, and plan to add it to the list of devices that includes the Galaxy Note / Note 2, Note 10.1, Galaxy S2, and Galaxy S3. This doesn’t happen first time that Apple has aimed directly at Samsung for supposed copyright infringement , anyway this set of hearing is set to start next Spring. We hope all the geeks will be ready with popcorn for this upcoming tech battle blockbuster of the year.

Yes, you read it right. According to a latest study by Appthority, the most popular free apps on Apple’s iOS are sharing significantly more user data than the most popular free apps on Google’s Android. Despite Android being infamous as a less secure platform, report found that it was iOS apps that are allowed to engage in more risky behaviors.

Appthority’s App Report for February 2013 examined the top performing free mobile apps across both iOS and Android, as free mobile apps are more likely to rely ad networks and analytics companies as a means of generating revenue. They examined top 50 free apps in both the iOS App Store and Google Play Store each for the potentially harmful use of personal information.

ios android data study
androidnova.org

The study found that all (100 percent) 50 of the top free iOS apps and 92 percent of the top 50 free Android apps — send and receive data without encryption. iOS apps get more access to user data, with 54 percent having access to a user’s contact list, 60 percent of the top apps tracking user location, 60 percent sharing data with ad or analytics networks, and 14 percent accessing users’ calendars.

On the other hand, 50 percent of Android apps shared data with ad networks, while 42 percent tracked user locations. Only 20 percent of Android apps had access to users’ contact lists, and none were found to access the calendar.

Although the study does not address the impact of mobile malware, it should be noted that mobile malware only affects only one percent of apps. Also some of the categories in the study like single sign-on support aren’t dangerous in and of themselves; they provide gateways to possibly dangerous behavior for personal data within the apps. As the larger concern, the study concludes that we should be focusing on how mobile apps handle personal information and how much the company values one’s privacy.

The year 2012 was good for majority and worst nightmare for many. It was the year where we survived 21st Dec 2012. And if your are reading this post then you proved Mayans and Nostradamus wrong about their silly predictions (NO Offence Please :D ).

2012 was a great year in terms of Smartphones and gadgets. At one side, Samsung became the biggest smartphone company of the world on the other side,Nokia’s down fall begins and most probably will also continue in 2013.

This year, Android ate apple and rest of the apple survived. So, 2012 is the year dedicated to technology, smartphones, tablets etc. and as per your opinion we picked these devices into our top phones of 2012 list :-

5. After so much criticism, we still picked “People’s Phone” The Apple iphone 5 into our list. Apple stated that Apple iphone 5 is the result of great hard work and innovation. What we can distinguish between Apple iphone 4s and iphone 5 is a new row off apps i.e. increase in screen length :P . Only good thing we noticed is this phone is boosted by triple core graphics.

Apple patent infringements by Samsung may cost an 88% of its phone sales profit

The never ending patent war between Apple and Samsung is on fire for a year around, and we know that Apple won the patent litigation against Samsung regarding patent infringements earlier this year. Recently a redacted document from the court case was available for the general public, and in it we found Judge Pender’s recommendations for punitive action against Samsung. We feel its very harsh for Samsung who is trying to gain foothold in the smartphone market worldwide. It seems that this battle may cost Samsung an 88% of its total phone sales profit.

According to FOSS Patents, an blog dedicated to software patent suits, Judge Pender made the following recommendations:

  • a U.S. import ban that would enter into effect after the 60-day Presidential review period following a final ITC decision,
  • a simultaneous cease-and-desist order that would prohibit the sale of any commercially significant quantities of the imported infringing accused products in the United States (this remedy was denied against HTC), and finally…
  • the requirement to post a bond of 88% of the value of all mobile phones, 32.5% of the value of all media players, and 37.6% of the value of all tablet computers found to infringe Apple’s patents-in-suit during the Presidential review period.

According to FOSS Patents,  there is high possibility of that  recommendations will be implemented  as the ITC staff agrees with the recommendations . It’s too sad these two technology companies can’t stop this court battle a and put their focus on bringing us greater products which consider consumer as a focal point.

Apple and HTC clear their patent disputes

US based Apple Inc and Taiwan based  HTC have clear all their  disputes over patents, ending a patent fight that started in March 2010.

The two firms also signed a 10-year licence agreement that will extend to current and future patents held by each other.

Apple Inc has been involved in a series of “patent wars” with phone makers and with arch-rival Google. HTC’s sales have been in decline since the second half of 2011, despite having become a major global phone company by aligning itself to Google’s Android platform.

The firm has diversified its device offering by  introducing two new models running Microsoft’s Windows Phone 8 software. The HTC based Android devices are much popular in the market because of their exceptional sound quality by associating the android smartphones with Beats Audio drivers and headsets.

“HTC is pleased to have resolved its dispute with Apple, so HTC can focus on innovation instead of litigation,” said Peter Chou,  head of HTC.

The firm said recently it expects sales will be lower than had been expected at the end of the year as the Taiwanese smartphone maker has been finding it hard to emulate the success of its rivals.

HTC and Apple were fighting more than 20 cases in the world, according to the AFP news agency.

Apple won an order  from the US International Trade Commission almost a year ago, which issued a “limited exclusion order” directing that HTC stop bringing offending smartphones into the US from April.

And in May, the US mobile carrier Sprint had to delay the introduction of a smartphone using Google’s Android operating system after the devices were blocked by US customs due to an Apple complaint.

Ongoing cases

Apple and its rivals have been suing and counter-suing for the past several years, accusing each other of copying designs and ideas in the lucrative smartphone space.

Apple and Samsung, for example, have filed legal cases against each other in more than 10 countries, each accusing the other of violating its patents.

A California court earlier this year awarded Apple $1.05bn in damages against Samsung, after ruling several of its software and design technologies had been infringed, but the Korean company is calling for a retrial.

We hope that these fights come to a happy ending and every device manufacturer can pump the legal overheads into device research and development.

Yes,Apple will approve Google Maps for iOS

Yes , Apple will approve Google Maps for iOS

The ios smartphone lovers  went into a mild panic today over a report saying that a native Google Maps app for iOS would “struggle for Apple approval.”

Sources at Google familiar with its mapping plans say they are ‘not optimistic’ that Apple will ever approve a dedicated Google Maps iOS app.

Though the app is reportedly in development and should be ready to ship by the end of the year, the sources say their plans are only proceeding in ‘the unlikely event‘ that Apple will choose to approve the app.

“This screams of shadiness on Apple’s part, if the report is true , it might be a long time before we see a native Google Maps app on iOS” warns Business Insider.

Well, here’s some good news for everyone –the sources are almost certainly wrong . At the very least, their concerns are overstated. Because , do you know who else is worried Apple might not approve their app ?-Every developer who has ever published his work on the App Store.

It’s a function of Apple’s opaque, ever-changing standards for what qualifies for App Store hosting. A developer can sell an app for years only to find it yanked from the store over some sudden change as it happens all the time. And so it’s not at all unusual that a few employees among the many thousands who work at Google fear rejection from Apple. Fearing rejection from Apple is the default emotional state of developing for Apple devices , but this is no ordinary app . There are competitive issues at play here . Global software platform geopolitics . Apple’s own Maps product met with derision around the world ; it is simply too proud to let a superior product into its store .

No matter how bad Apple’s Maps are, the company still wants its users to move on from Google — and forget about them

Alas, this view omits the most relevant thing Apple has said about Google Maps in the wake of its Maps fiasco — namely , that people should use Google Maps . In his open letter to iOS 6 users , Apple CEO Tim Cook , went out of his way to recommend competitors .

“While we’re improving Maps, you can try alternatives by downloading map apps from the App Store like Bing, MapQuest and Waze, or use Google or Nokia maps by going to their websites and creating an icon on your home screen to their web app”

If Mr.Cook is truly intent on getting users to “move on from Google — and forget about them” , this seems to be a rather ineffective way of going about it . The story’s other piece of evidence is that two obscure apps weren’t selected to be in Apple’s round-up of map alternatives in the App Store . Not that these apps were rejected from the App Store, mind you . Just that they weren’t included in a round-up, possibly because they used Google Maps APIs . Now, we are not above ascribing dark motives to Apple when it comes to App Store curation . When Apple removed Google’s YouTube as a pre-installed app and failed to include it in a prominent App Store section about video apps, it was hard to resist the assumption that the move was intentional . Neither company would comment for the record. But it’s telling what happened afterward :

“in the wake of our story the companies exchanged e-mails on the subject and eventually YouTube popped up in the video section after all .”

google-vs-apple-androidnova.org
Totally unaddressed is the public outcry that would result from the Google Maps app being rejected . During the long period in which the Google Voice app was not available in the App Store , Apple faced regular criticism . The Federal Communications Commission wound up launching an inquiry into the subject . Amid much scrutiny , Apple relented — and no Google-developed app has faced a significant approval delay since . Given the enormous attention the mapping issue has received , Apple could not reject Google Maps without inviting a media circus , public disdain and (likely) Congressional hearings.
Yes , Apple will approve Google Maps for iOS
