 Google may acquire WhatsApp for 1 billion Dollars

A new rumour has gushed out in this tech world,which states that Google is interested in buying the Whatsapp the world’s popular messenger service.

insider sources say that WhatsApp is in the negotiating phase over prices with Google. it states that the deal started four or five weeks ago and adds that WhatsApp is “playing hardball” and jockeying for a higher acquisition price, which currently is “close to” $1 billion right now.

Previously  TechCrunch had reported that Facebook wanted to buy Whatsapp. The report had quoted sources close to the matter.

However, in a statement to VentureBeat, WhatsApp had denied any such deal taking placed and the company’s business head Neeraj Arora said, “The TechCrunch article is a rumor and not factually accurate. We have no further information to share at the moment.”

Whatsapp has been one of the biggest success stories as far as messaging apps are concerned.  At the end of October  2011, the messaging service had announced that they now saw over 1 billion messages being sent in a single day.

Whatsapp blogpost sees nearly That is 41,666,667 messages an hour, 694,444 messages a minute, and 11,574 messages a second.. These are pretty big numbers as far as Google concerned.

In its current form, WhatsApp has no advertising. According to WhatApp’s blogpost, the reason for the absence of advertising is,

Remember, when advertising is involved you the user are the product.

At WhatsApp, our engineers spend all their time fixing bugs, adding new features and ironing out all the little intricacies in our task of bringing rich, affordable, reliable messaging to every phone in the world. That’s our product and that’s our passion. Your data isn’t even in the picture. We are simply not interested in any of it.

If the acquisition is successful, WhatsApp will join the ranks of Google’s high-profile buyouts like YouTube and Android.

Relationship Between Instagram And Facebook :

Instagram, which is owned by Facebook Inc., made its announcement in a blog regarding the Upcoming Instagram Profiles on web.

The layout of the Web profiles is:

  • reminiscent of Facebook timelines ,with the exception of little text and ads.
  • So that the users will have a large cover image that’s a collage of their old Instagram shots.
  • having their profile photo on the right side and their snapshots cascade down the page.

Facebook has insisted since it bought Instagram this year that it will keep it running as a separate service. That still appears to be the case. The Instagram Web pages don’t link to Facebook and don’t ask users to log in using their Facebook accounts.

Instagram’s privacy settings are like Twitter’s. Users can either choose to be fully public, so that anyone can see and comment on their photos, or private, such that photos can be seen only to pre-approved followers. Unlike with Facebook’s complex, granular privacy controls, there is nothing in between.

Facebook, which is based in Menlo Park, Calif., agreed to buy Instagram in a deal valued at $1 billion in April, before its May initial public offering of stock. Upon closing on Aug. 31, the deal was worth $715.3 million because of Facebook’s fallen stock price.

Instagram Web Profiles: Common Questions

  • What are Instagram web profiles?

Instagram web profiles are a beautiful new way to view and share Instagram on the web! Your web profile features your photos along with your profile photo and bio, giving others a look at the content you share on Instagram.

  • What can I do with Instagram web profiles?

You can share your own profile with anyone you want to see your Instagram photos. In addition, web profiles provide an easy way to follow other users, comment & like photos, and even edit your profile directly from the web.

  • Why is Instagram launching web profiles?

We’re launching web profiles to give you a simple way to share your photos with more people and to make it easier to discover new users on the web.

  • How do I see my web profile?

To see your profile, or to explore a friend’s profile, simply navigate to instagram.com/[username]. For example, in order to view milli ’s profile, @embignuts, you’d navigate to instagram.com/embignuts on the web.

  • Why can’t I see my web profile yet?

Web profiles will launch to all Instagram users in the next week or so. If you can’t see your profile yet, rest assured that you’ll see it in the next few days.

  • Who can see my web profile?

If your photos are set to public, anyone will be able to see your profile by visiting instagram.com/[your username] on the web. You do not have to be an Instagram user to view a public user’s profile on the web.

If your photos are set to private, your photos will be visible only to logged-in Instagram users you’ve allowed to follow you.

  • What photos are included in my web profile?

All photos you’ve shared to Instagram are included in your web profile.

  • My photos are set to “Private” – do I still have a web profile?

Yes, but not everyone will be able to see your photos. Your photos will be visible only to logged-in Instagram users you’ve allowed to follow you.

  • Can I upload photos from the web?

Instagram is focused on the production of photos from mobile devices so users are not currently able to upload from the web. We’re excited about how Web Profiles will make it easier to browse and share content on the web for all our users.

Instagram says it’s still primarily mobile focused, so there won’t be any web uploading of pics, but you can still like and comment on other user’s photos from the web, as well as edit your profile.

Android-4.2-Jelly-Bean-ANDROIDNOVA.ORG

For all those who can’t wait to get thier hands on the oh-so-sleek new and polished Android 4.1, we now have some more great news – THE NEXUS4 DUMP SYSTEM : ANDROID 4.2 IS NOW LEAKED!

In our article a few days ago,We did a hands-on review on the leaked android 4.2 apps like:

->PHOTOSPHERE

->GALLERY

->KEYBOARD

Ever since the Nexus 4 and 10 were announced last week, things at XDA(xda-developers.com) have been moving around non-stop.Not only for these two devices added almost immediately, but we also learned that Android 4.2 would actually be an updated version of Jelly Bean. Tons of new first-party features become available with the update, such as a brand new (and very smart) keyboard as well as a camera that allows you to truly capture the essence of the world around you. However, as fun as new leaked APKs are, the developers at XDA are much more interested in more substantial leaks.

Nexus-4-Wallpaper-ANDROIDNOVA.ORG
Nexus-4-Wallpaper-ANDROIDNOVA.ORG

Thanks to a thread created by XDA Forum Member ingbrzy, we are excited to learn that there was a leak of the LG Nexus 4 system image(Android 4.2 leak) floating around the Internet. Ingbrzy linked to this dump, and just like that, things were set in motion.

Why is this important?

Well, since the 4.2 version has not been officially released as of yet, developers who are itching to get their hands on it to start working on ports can now get a head start before Google officially updates the AOSP site with the new download. So, what can people expect out of this? Probably nothing yet as the ROM is specifically made for the LG Nexus 4 ( and these are just system dump files of android 4.2 leaked ). As such, there are compatibility issues that will need to be overcome before anyone sees a fully working port of this dump. Having said that, developers work quite quickly, so it would not be surprising to see some alphas or betas surfacing within the next few days, if not sooner.

Some sad news for Android lovers. Android one of the world’s most used smartphone OS is favorably known for its development options and plethora of apps provided in its Play store.But this Play Store is cause of concern for many organization’s.

Nowadays employee-owned mobile devices are entering the workplace in big numbers, via the BYOD (bring your own device) scheme, but what about the apps that reside on those devices.What about the Rooted Android devices running malicious apps. Could they potentially compromise the privacy—and security—of your company and employees?

As BYOD becomes a standard in organizations, many organizations have no idea what apps employees are installing on their mobile devices. Does the unmonitored access these devices have to the entire Google Play app inventory threaten your business? Does BYOD really mean “Bring Your Own Danger”?

Bit9 a security analysis company  analyzed more than 400,000 apps within the Google Play marketplace, focusing on the permissions requested by these applications and the threat each vulnerability poses. Alongside our Android app analysis, Bit9 also conducting a targeted survey of IT security decision makers responsible for the mobile policy of more than 400,000 employees.

A Bit9 report, “Pausing Google Play: More Than 100,000 Android Apps May Pose Security Risks” shows that:

    • ->72 percent of all Android apps (more than 290,000) access at least one high-risk permission.
    • ->71 percent of respondents say that their organization allows employee owned devices to connect to their company’s network.
    • ->84 percent of respondents feel iOS is significantly more secure than Android.
    • ->96 percent of respondents that allow employee-owned device access, allow employees to access company email using their personal device.
    • ->26 percent of apps access private information such as email and contacts, with only 2 percent of apps being from highly trusted publishers.

The recently released NEXUS4 – LG and the NEXUS10SAMSUNG 10”TAB sure did enough to catch the eyes of one and all.However GOOGLE’s-ANDROID  NEXUS devices are also known for the latest android firmware they come with.Infact, at the time of the launch the nexus devices are the only devices in the world to be preloaded with best & latest android firmware .This time around GOOGLE launched the NEXUS4 with a much needed polished , buttery smooth ANDROID JELLYBEAN 4.2.

Apart from the polishing and a different quick settings tab and other features , it introduced a new camera : PHOTOSPHERE – ANDROIDS best camera app yet with an OH-SO-SEXY panorama view with a new 3D rendereing gallery !

Now for the best part : YOU COULD ENJOY THIS BEAUTIFUL NEW ANDROID PURE JELLYBEAN FEATURE ON YOUR 4.1.X DEVICE !

XDA and a developer recently leaked the “APK”s for the new camera app and the stock 4.2 swipe android keyboard.We at androidnova , decided to play with it on my galaxy nexus and the result was taking panorama pictures and viewing them all day long !

Here are some screenshots followed by the xda link :

PANORAMA is perhaps the most beautifully implemented feature in androids 4.2 photosphere and it really dosen’t disappoint , working flawlessly and oh-so-easy ! some pix we took are shown below :

Picture above shows a 2d panorama shot .

The picture above represents a part of the 360 degree 3D panorama in the 3d gallery viewer.

Now that we have seen some great shots using the photosphere lets have a look at the leaked and tested new stock 4.2 jellybean keyboard , which implements gesture recognition !

The above picture is themed and does not resemble how stock keyboard may look however the gesture (SWIPE like trail lines) is clearly visible and works really well.In fact we actually deleted stock aosp keyboard and use this as default now !

Google had asked websites to take down the leaked versions ( however mirrors might be available in the thread mentioned below ) as it says that this may not be the final release , but if this is so good , we cant stop drooling as to how good the official release will be !

XDA Thread :

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1965895

NOTE : We do not take responsibility for any uncommon beahaviour or harm sustained to your device after flashing the above . Flashing and experimentation is not advised for newbies . Also even though the OP of the above thread claims this works on all 4.1.x devices we have just tested it on the samsung galaxy nexus , may be you guys can test it on your device and let us know !

Android App development
www.androidnova.org

Whats up Guys? Welcome to the 5th android app development tutorial on Androidnova. In this tutorial we are going to start building an application that basically can use a phone’s camera and then we can set that picture which we captured as phone’s background or Wallpaper. So, its gonna be a pretty cool application for most of you guys here.

First of all as always, set up your android project in eclipse and name the app and activity as camera (for setting up project, click here). Once you are done, open the xml layout (main.xml) and  add two buttons, capture button and set wallpaper button and one Imageview as shown in below figure

Now open your camera java class inside src folder(path: src/com/camera/camera.java) and copy the following code as shown below

Code:

public class Camera extends Activity  implements View.OnClickListener{
/** Called when the activity is first created. */

ImageButton ib;
Button b;
ImageView iv;
Intent i;
final static int cameraData = 0;
Bitmap bmp;
@Override
public void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) {
super.onCreate(savedInstanceState);
setContentView(R.layout.main);
initialize();
InputStream is = getResources().openRawResource(R.drawable.ic_launcher);
bmp = BitmapFactory.decodeStream(is);
}
private void initialize() {
// TODO Auto-generated method stub
iv = (ImageView) findViewById(R.id.)
ib = (ImageButton) findViewById (R.id.ibTakePic);
b = (Button) findViewById(R.id.bSetWall);
b.setOnClickListener(this);
ib.setOnClickListener(this);
}
public void onClick(View v) {
// TODO Auto-generated method stub
switch (v.getId()){
case R.id.bSetWall:
try {
getApplicationContext().setWallpaper(bmp);
} catch (IOException e) {
// TODO Auto-generated catch block
e.printStackTrace();
}
break;
case R.id.ibTakePic:
i = new Intent(android.provider.MediaStore.ACTION_IMAGE_CAPTURE);
startActivityForResult(i, cameraData);
break;
}
}
@Override
protected void onActivityResult(int requestCode, int resultCode, Intent data) {
// TODO Auto-generated method stub
super.onActivityResult(requestCode, resultCode, data);
if (resultCode == RESULT_OK){
Bundle extras = data.getExtras();
bmp = (Bitmap) extras.get(“data”);
iv.setImageBitmap(bmp);
}
}
}
}

Don’t Forget to import the necessary packages if you are copying the code. Just press ctr+ shift + o once u have copied the above code..

Hope you guys have fun building this app. I’ll come up with a new tutorial very soon. Till then, later!

Note: This app may not work in emulator, you need to connect your physical android device via USB and run the application.

Below is the screen shot of application. Image Button is used to capture image and after capturing image, you can set wallpaper using “set wallpaper ” button.

Greetings All,

The most awaited ICS (Icecream Sandwhich) update has been released for. Xolo x900 users. Whereas, all other Intel powered phones users are waiting for their carriers to release update. Orange Sandiego & Megamint users can also taste ICS if they don’t want to wait for official one by flashing Xolo x900′s update (Tutorial coming soon).

ICS review & Benchmarks

Our team got a chance to taste ICS and we are bringing its flavor to you.

image

image
What’s new with this update?
image

- As expected, Xolo X900 runs on a non-customized ICS rom i.e. AOSP, which is a good thing. User can experience Google’s original ICS.
- Overall performance is improved. We felt it more smoother than previous version of android. Benchmarks are good enough for a single core processor phone which beats all phones in memory with 6127 points.
image

- Update comes with new camera app which resolves many bugs like dull images which were present in Gingerbread version. New camera app is easy to use and packed with attractive features and looks.
image

- Music & sound quality are improved. Music app comes with interactive UI & sound effects.
image

image

-Music controls on lockscreen has been added which was requested by many users.
image

-Fonts are now customized according to the screen resolution of 1024×600 and also user can now set the font size.
image

-Update also helped to improve battery life.
-issue of app compatibility has been resolved now games like temple run and asphalt 7 etc. are in supported list.

What’s left?
-At this stage, we were expecting Jellybeans from Intel. We do not want Intel and their partner carriers to delay the update.
- Bootloaders are still locked – Android is an open source project and every user has its rights to customize their OS according to their needs. Intel is new to android phone market and by locking down bootloaders in the name of security will not help Intel to develop in the market. This phone is still vulnerable to USSD code attacks.

We appreciate Intel’s work over this update and we hope that Intel will resolve above issues as well as will work over fast updates.
